Stitching with METALLIC THREAD...
When I first started machine embroidery, I had a dreadful time trying to stitch with Metallic Thread without it constantly breaking. If you follow the simple tips below, you will be assured of your Metallic Thread stitching beautifully, without the frustration!
- Use a special needle such as the Schmetz Metallica Needle for stitching with metallic thread. Metallica needles have an extra large eye to prevent excessive wear on the Metallic Thread. I use the 14/90 size for all of my Cross Stitch. When the Color Stop calling for Metallic Thread comes up, change the regular needle you are using for regular embroidery to the Metallica needle.
- Slow down your machine speed at least 2 stops from the fastest speed.
- Position the spool of Metallic Thread on the table to the right of your machine, not in the normal spool position on the machine. Metallic Thread tends to loop and needs a longer "path" from the spool to where it is threaded into the machine. During stitching, you might want to keep an eye on the thread and straighten any loops that might occur.
- You might want to bypass the first threading position you normally use to thread your machine.
- I actually tighten my top tension one notch or two from normal. If the Metallic Thread is too loose on top, you might end up with unwanted loops here and there.
- Remember to change your needle back to the normal one, once you have completed the Color Stop requiring Metallic Thread.
